It's important to have a mix of do-follow and no-follow links to your site. And just because a blog is auto-approve doesn't make the links worthless. I found this great tool called DoFellow, check it out. It searches the web and brings back relevant high pr blogs to add your link to. It also brings back very fresh blogs so that when you answer and leave a comment yours is at the top which is also important. For the WP plugins, there is a free one called JetPack that is very good. It gives you all the buttons for social media and it also connects to WordPress and twitter and Yahoo so when you post they are notified of your new additions. Good luck!
