I'm being stalked, the cops won't do anything. Should I let it go?

Im being stalked and harassed by my ex boyfriend. We've been broken up for going on 3 years now and he still won't stop trying to contact me. He lets it be known that he knows everything. I moved about 20 minutes away and he somehow found out and he drops hints about my new house all the time. He also texts me from fake numbers he has one of those apps that gives you a temporary fake number so he's always messaging me and I can't block these fake number. I have his actual cell number blocked from my account hence why he's using fake numbers. He still drives past my parents house whet I used to live and just the other day he followed my mother on the highway and kept speeding up til he was right at her bumper and then swerved in the other lane so he would be right next to her car. He's done this to me before. He's followed me home from work one day at my old job and tried to hit my car. He just barely missed. Then when I moved I got a new job and I work nights now. Well he knows that too. As soon as I got the job he wrote on his AOL messenger status that "night jobs really suck" . That's how he tries to talk to me online. I have him blocked on Facebook and emails so instead he writes status messages on AOL about me. I figured its only a matter of time before he finds out my new address since he knows everything else. I've called the police before and they basically said they can't do anything unless he physically hurts me. That's great right.... He has threatened in the past to kill me and my new boyfriend. Just yesterday I got anothe text from a fake number of his talking about my boyfriend. He knows his name and where he lives. This is getting ridiculous.

The saddest part is.. I don't answer him !!!! I let it go and let it go and let it go and here I am 3 yrs later STILL being harassed.

Should i just continue to ignore him or is there anything I can do about it without police help?
