Sometimes the problem is with excessive temp files. Find the setting to delete the temporary files in your browser and delete all the temp files (minus the cookies, passwords etc); the location of this differs by browser; a web search on e.g. 'deleting temp file firefox' will easily give you instructions to do so. Or just run 'Disk Cleanup', which comes built in with Windows.
In addition type %TEMP% in the file explorer address bar and directly delete all the files in there. If slowness persists run ccleaner - http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/3000-1...15544.html if slowness persists, the problem could be great many background programs running. Type 'msconfig' in the run box. That brings up a program that lets you control what is loaded up at boot time; see if you see any suspicious programs out there; or programs that you do not need. ** BUT BE CAREFUL **; it is easy to disable a needed program through msconfig, and then you will run into trouble with your comp. Then check the CPU, memory usage etc from the task manager; right click on the bottom right to bring up a menu from which you can launch task manager. See if there is excessive CPU usage OR memory consumption. If there is, then if a program that you do not need is taking up the extra CPU/memory, kill that program. Sometimes there are bugs in program versions which cause it to use excessive CPU/memory; upgrade those programs to see if the problem goes away. Open tabs on web browsers can sometimes take very many CPU cycles and/or memory. Scale down on the tabs. If after doing the above you still see CPU/mem high, then you need a better computer for the tasks that you are trying to do on your computer. |
