On Facebook, what's the difference between a 'Like' page and a group?

Page would have to be something you can just "like" But when you want to "join a group" you either have to get a invite, see it on someone else's wall, on your news feed or search it in the search bar.

Advantages are for the "page" that well...there isnt really a diff. other than you get it like a shortcut or something in the area where you check your messages and profile picture are displayed.
And you get messages whenever someone updates a group.
