I believe in trusting until trust is broken, so in my opinion that guy is a nice person because he hasn't done anything bad to you yet. Also, if you know someone is a lier, why believe them?
Players don't have time to take it slow; they only want one thing, and no matter what charming tactic they use, time isn't one of them.
I would do one of two things; one is pretend the ex never said anything and stop being paranoid and looking for something bad in your guy friend, or two is mention bluntly EVERYTHING the ex said to you and see his reaction to each and every thing. Perhaps it's all lies, or all misunderstandings.
