I feel like not a single girl likes me, I've never had a girlfriend, and I'm lonely. What should I do?

I'm a freshman in high school and I have been wanting a girlfriend for a while, but now I'm starting to get desperate. I really don't care about looks that much, especially since I'm not exactly a supermodel myself. Just as long as she's not hideous. But my problem is, I am really awkward and I've never really hung out with girls my age before. I guess I can talk to them, but I've made an *** out of myself to several girls who I liked. I don't have the confidence to talk to them in person about my feelings for them, so I tell them via social media, which I have found doesn't work. So what should I do??? Please help!
