Be active, every day.
Also try to interact with other users. Another great method of getting more followers is by following a lot of people yourself in the hope they might follow back. But this is time consuming and you will get stuck following a lot of people.

You can also buy twitter followers. Its a great way skyrocket your followers count up, giving the impression you are popular.
