Iphone upgrade not working?

I have an iphone4G 9 months into my 2 year contract. On 12/29/12 itunes came out with a new upgrade and I can't get it to work. I have rebooted phone and computer. I have watched the new tutorial that Apple has. ATT (my carrier) says they can't help me. Apple says they will help me for $69 as my 90 warranty with them has expired. I have figured out the menu system but not everything works. I sync by plugging phone into computer. The phone has 100 pictures I have just taken. The new itunes thinks there are no photos on the phone. So it won't let me upload. I also have an ipad and when i plugged that in to computer it did the same thing. My husband also has iphone and ipad (both the newest versions) and on his computer, his itunes is also not working. On mine specifically, with the new menu system, I click on the iphone at the top of menu, and then photos and it shows NO photos. But they are on iphone. Apple only says they can't talk to me without payment. Anybody? Thanks
