If you need to focus on schoolwork, why not study together? By the sound of it he's a great guy and would help you out. I'd hate for you to push him away and avoid a great friendship because you're afraid of getting hurt. Don't rule out a relationship either. College is about more than grades and having a good GPA. Have fun while you're there. If you don't, you're missing a lot.

If you're still unsure, talk to him about it and be honest. He should know that it's nothing he did. Don't start avoiding him or trying to put off hanging out. Be straightforward about it. Good luck!
