It depends on a lot more than just your age. How are those years treating your look? In other words, do you look young? fresh?
As a 30 year old entering the industry you could likely do commercial work (think Sears catalog). Of course, it depends on your look and without seeing you I can't commit 100% to that statement. Some editorial work and even some fashion/glamour work is possible if you are the right height/size/look. The modeling industry is widening its scope to include models who were once considered too old, too short, etc. There are niches now and the svelt 6' young woman walking the runway is just one in a rather long lineup of opportunities. I don't know where you live, but you can probably get some work locally if you are near a large city (not necessarly a major one). There are many "older" models who are working now and are "big time." You may never see work in the major markets, but many local markets can provide a lucrative career. Look for local agencies, get a good portfolio together that shows you in a variety of looks and you may even want to check out ad agencies. Older models entering the industry have to work harder to find their niche, but it can be done. The opportunities are more limited than they are for the younger girls, but even then there are limitations due to height, size, look, etc. Check out some of the modeling social networks: modelmayhem.com models.com modellaunch.com |
