How can I get apps on my Samsung phone?

not all samsungs do, but i know the jet and omnia do, have (apps) they are called widgets on samsungs, they aren't as good as iphone apps, they are things like youtube shortcut, facebook shortcut e.t.c, is there an icon called something like market, or widgets or something among those lines? I hope this helps
