Why can't we Conservatives do a better job of expressing our concern for the down-trodden and impoverished?

A big part of the image problem would be the baldfaced lies told by liberals. Repeat a lie often enough and people start to believe it. It's disgusting, and it's been a left wing tactic for years.

Conservatives think everyone can be successful and self-dependent with motivation and initiative. Liberals spin that idea around and suggest that conservatives don't give a rat's @ss about anyone because they refuse to hold your hand from cradle to grave. It's all b.s., of course. Conservatives believe in a safety net for those who need it, not for those who simply want it. Liberals believe in the latter. And the latter is why we're going bankrupt.
