Its huge.

The search engines base their rankings on a totality of work. So, if you have twitter retweets, and facebook likes, and have high marks in a couple other similar sites, expect your blogs to rate high.

Also, if you have a blog you are trying to popularize, get in there in social media and talk to people. People do business with those they know, like and trust. Social media is an opportunity to create those bonds quickly.
