Whats a fake Emo and a real Emo?

They don't use their depression as a badge of honor to the sub genre.
It's not real depression, they are always going to the extremes to keep their emo label because they know nothing about it.

A real emo -
Listens to the sub genre of hardcore punk called emotive hardcore shortened to emocore. Some bands are Rites of Spring, Moss Icon and Sunny Day Real Estate. No emo or screamo band is mainstream. They may prefer to wear emocore fashion which includes flat shoes, skinny jeans, sweaters, real emo band shirts and thick rimmed glasses with a messenger bag. Real followers of emocore know what they're talking about and they know the background and history of the sub genre, including the two people and the band who formed it. A real emo knows that the sub genre focoses on emotions and being ruled by their heart, they are creative and most likely take part in reading, writing or drawing.

A fake emo, on the other hand -
Will listen to any bands with emotional lyrics thinking they are emo and just because of that and bands that are labelled emo by the media which in your case it is MCR, Paramore and ATL. They will wear band shirts, eyeliner, possibly have a side fringe in, converse and skinny jeans every day of the week. Most "emos" tend to be Tweens who dress all in black and are "depressed". Try are not emo at all and they have no understanding. They could cut themselves, fake depression or even become suicidal just keep the label. They are ignorant about it too as they will think it means emotional and come up with the most ridiculous assumptions of what emo is. Emo isn't dark.

You asked what they have to be depressed about, well that is nothing because they are faking it to keep the emo label because that's what they think is the key point to being emo. I have to say that they sound like poseurs, a lot of them are. There are barely any real emos around and if they do know the history if it, they aren't or belong to another subculture. There is a major difference between the two, poseurs or fakes seem to be the most dominant.

I think Tia has just described a fake emo but said it was real. Scene kids are more likely to wear kandi, not real emos. They also don't have problems either, because anyone with the mental health problem 'depression' would be labelled emo and emo has never had anything to do with emo and never will.
