Youtube and Facebook themselves are not a problem. What you have to watch out for are all the applications that you can add to your account. Most of these are not made by Youtube or Facebook and are not regulated by them. The makers of the applications can slide in viruses but more likely they can put in spyware that is loaded onto your computer. It is not a common practice but it does happen.
