Why is John Green famous?

A lot of publishers and authors are asking questions like this: "Why is X person so much more famous than their colleagues who are writing similar books?" You can ask it about J.K. Rowling (fantasy), Stephenie Meyer (supernatural romance), Suzanne Collins (dystopian fiction), E.L. James (erotic adult fiction), and John Green (realistic young adult fiction), among others.

Ultimately, it's not easy to answer why one person becomes the figurehead for their genre.

Part of John Green's success, of course, is the way he built a large and dedicated online fanbase with social media and his v-log. People who like his online presence will read his books, people who read his books will find him online, and these two channels build upon each other. He's an engaging public speaker and has a lot of charisma, so he's great at self-promotion. He's a publicist's dream Smile

Another point is the very high quality of his writing, which has earned him praise on both the young-adult and adult circuits. Especially with the release of "The Fault in Our Stars," which features young adult characters but "adult" themes like mortality and illness, the book bridges several audiences. And because the books are so well-written, people talk about them and recommend them to friends. Word of mouth is an important selling tool for books.

If you like realistic fiction, I'd encourage you to pick up one of his books. "Paper Towns" and "The Fault in Our Stars" are two of the best young-adult novels I've ever read.
