If America dies China will be the next superpower. How is this possible?

China made its fortunes since the 70s by opening up the Chinese market to trade and investment, which drew in corporations that wanted to use cheap labour to reduce production cost, therefore increasing profit without having to inflate the price.

Also, while China's industry and economy improved, more jobs were created, on average families earned more, and could afford more commodities - they now have a capitalist society almost exactly the same as America, in that an individual's status is based on his material possessions. This created a huge internal demand in China for their own products, as well as foreign imported goods, which is stimulating growth.

Capitalist countries grow by having their citizens buy more, to keep a healthy demand for industries, and China is fast becoming one of the world's largest consumerist states.

It is an astonishing feat, considering they've only been at it for 40 odd years, literally transforming the nation within 2 generations. However, this created what you saw - a society yet to adapt to such a level of wealth, which caused housing inflation, class division, corruption, outdated laws and check systems to deal with a modernised society with modern problems etc.

They are developing, that's for sure, but given time, they will stabilise and come to an equilibrium, and I wouldn't call it fair if you judge a developing country by the standards of a developed nation.

Considering how their central government pulled through the global recession with hardly any scratch, and even managed continued, steady growth when the entire developed world nearly collapsed, I'd say their government, however bad a reputation (much fuelled by biased western media), is doing a nice job.

If you continue to see China as a backward country, they'll simply overtake you sooner. Napoleon once referred China as a "sleeping dragon". If you studied history you'd know China was a superpower, on several occasions, during the Middle Ages, they're simply coming back to claim what they already had.
