But for your thesis statement, you want to answer a different question: WHY do mass media encourage racial stereotypes? Did you address this "why" question anywhere in your paper? If so, then you should be able to come up with reasons why. But if you have NOT addressed this issue in the paper, then you don't want to bring it up as part of your thesis statement. You should use an alternative thesis statement, such as "Racial stereotypes continue to be used in mass media depictions of minorities despite change in social attitudes toward race. This paper will provide examples to support this claim by reviewing...."
