what is the value of education in brazil compared to the usa?

Brazil has the largest income gap between rich and poor, so getting a college education is fundamental for climbing the social ladder. Medium-class families are aware of that - so they enroll their kids in private schools (presumably better than the public ones). Lower-class families tend not to place a value in education that much, and the number of dropouts is still elevated.
When you talk about Brazil, you may be talking about two different worlds - the have and the have-not's. Medium class kids in Brazil are not so different from the sort you find here in the US. Kids for the less-favored classes, on the other hand, go to public schools and their families often don't place much value in education.
Brazil remains a secular country. Media plays an important role in the lives of children, and the role is sometimes positive, sometimes negative.
