I receive warnings when trying to download apps on my Droid - are they safe?

I just got a Droid today for my birthday! I am looking through apps and want to download some, but each one I have looked at gives me warnings about the app being able to access certain information. Should I be concerned? Has anyone else received these warnings? The first app I tried was the Facebook app!
