Why do people feel they NEED facebook or twitter?

I have facebook and I got it I think when I was going to be an 8th grader and It was because my Korean friend(she lives there now) sent me something to get it. I also have two other foreign exchange students that came to the USA that moved back to there home country that have facebook one is from Japan and the other is from Italy. We can't just call or text each other through phone or anything. It's also easier than email because they could get a new email address and it's good to see there status to see what goes on.
