If I send a facebook friend request and the person deletes their account, how can I cancel the request?

You'll be able to cancel your pending request only when the user become active. You can use Pending Friend Request app to know all your pending requests
get the app here: http://apps.facebook.com/friendrequests

once you use it, it will record id of all your friends and if you want to know which of your friends deleted you use it again it will show their names in recommended list.
