What happened to the Facebook email?

not sure how it works on phones, but let's say your facebook vanity URL is

facebook.com/john_smith

your email for facebook would then be

john_smith@facebook.com

but it's not a real email... it's not a POP/SMTP email like hotmail or yahoo
