I understand you, but I also understand them too. You have all the rights to socialize, but then they might just be thinking of your safety. I suggest keep on convincing them until they finally get to your side. Tell them it might get useful in case you miss some schoolwork, get in contact with distant family members, or even get associated school events. Anything that sounds nice to the ear.
