This guy has been a jerk to you, yet you still kept him in your life as a friend. Then, he "confessed" that he has loved you all these years. I'm smelling donkey-doo here.

It seems to me that since you are living close to him and his girlfriend isn't, he wants to string you along as his side-piece. He's texting another friend to say how hurt he is to see you just so he has his back-up in place.

This guy is a jerk. He's not even worth your time as a friend. If he meant anything that he said to you, he would have come to you and spoken with you instead of texting a friend.

You deserve better than this treatment. The best thing you can do for yourself is to stop falling for his "poor me" routine. Don't worry about what's the best thing to do for him. He's all about himself.
