Its not illegal to develop a site similar to already existing site, you are not coping the content and the images which already in existence , you are just follow the similar business model in your site.

Having a similar concept is not at all illegal.

You can check with this site http://www.agriya.com/products where they have developed products similar to all popular sites, and they making best business out of it.
