Negative physical and mental effects of social media?

Social media constantly bombard us with information and advertisements. Sometimes it is apparent and sometimes it is subliminal. In either case social media persuades their audience to try follow their morals, ideals, beliefs. One popular example is beauty magazines and their "opinion" on physical appearance. Females look through these magazines and they see all these lean, airbrushed models; all fake.

These kind of pictures have an effect on the reader; it plants the idea of what defines normal or average. Teenage girls may believe that they are inadequate or ugly in comparison to society standards. As a result they may try and "correct" their negative effect which can have serious physical and mental ramifications. Anorexia and Bulimia are mental illnesses which are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. These illnesses could be the cause of social media.

If symptoms are identified relating to either of these mental illnesses intense therapy may be required followed with an immense change in lifestyle.
