Here is a link that tells exactly the procedure for either "Deactivating" or permanently "Deleting" a facebook account. You can deactivate your account and revive it at any time by logging in using your normal email address and password, or you can choose to permanently delete your facebook by deactivating the account and not logging in for 14 days for the deletion process to take place.
