Why does facebook on my phone send me notifications of random people updating their status or adding a picture?

You could possibly have them as a 'star' friend, that's when you get everything they do, from uploading a status or just changing their profile, all you do is go to their profile & change from 'star' friend to just regular friend, if it's not 'star' friend, then I really don't know.
