How come on facebook peoples profiles that were public are now all private?

Yep. The founder of Facebook sent out a message saying that the Privacy settings were going to be "Generalized". For everyone, the moment they opened their homepage, a message popped up directing them to change their privacy settings. Most people changed their settings from public to private. There are many people I know who didn't know that their profiles were public- they were quick to change that.

Anyway, if you look at these people's profiles all the time, why don't you add them to your friends list? Whether their profiles are private or public won't bother you then.
