Does Facebook Timeline or Newsfeed show when you log in?

facebook does not do such a thing at all..!!
As you said, u have already signed off the fb chat ('messenger'), you need not worry. But yes, if you login and do some activity like liking someone's pic, or status or some other stuffs over other places on the internet that offer facebook likes or comments(today, most of the sites do) or login using facebook account it might just popup into ur friend's newsfeed, indicating them u r back and logged in..
in case of websites that require login using fb acc or apps on fb ask you for permission to post on ur behalf, if u uncheck that, there won't be any problem..
