Why do most teenagers love social networking sites?

There are some tasks that work well face-to-face, like having an extended conversation with someone. There are others that work better over social networks. For example, organizing events. The problem with face to face conversations is that it requires everyone to be free and at the same place in the same time. Using something like Facebook (or even something like a Skype group chat) to organize events lets everyone contribute on their own schedule. It also gives you a written record of what everyone's saying, so you don't have to worry about people forgetting what they're supposed to be doing or who they're supposed to be working with.

When you graduate high school and everyone goes their separate ways, it also helps to stay in touch. For example, if I'm decide to visit San Francisco (which is far away from where I presently live), I know which of my friends are living there without needing to keep a friends chart up-to-date on my own, and I have an easy way of contacting them to find out if they want to hang out (again, without all of us needing to be available at the same time to discuss the details of the meet-up).
