I don't see an obvious scam setup, but am very suspicious of any convoluted payment schemes.
(most commonly it involves Nigerians getting you to cash a bad check and kicking some back to them)

As long as it's a local bank your likely to be OK, you should have gotten a great pawn shop operator price on whatever they were desperate to sell. You are at some risk of them just closing the account and vanishing with your money, while paypal or credit cards give you protection in the event of non delivery.
