Where does America's wealth lies?

Assuming you mean the USA, oil is traded internationally in US dollars, which is not the same as wealth but it supports their exchange rate and stabilises their inflation significantly. Currently I guess a lot of their wealth is in high tech. companies and this is due in no small part to the form H- 1B a.k.a. the genius visa. This is basically the visa that lets anyone into the USA to study or work if they are super clever. Think Rajesh Koothrappali in the TV series The Big Bang Theory. The vast majority (like 90% or something) of PhD students in the USA in science and engineering were not born the USA and are their by virtue of an H-1B visa, these are the guys who go on to work in Silicon Valley or start new high tech companies.
