How would you describe my political persuasion?

I do not like calling these left/liberal issues. Though I understand this is how we have been conditioned. To me these have nothing to do with politics and common law/constitution mostly agrees. These are "human" issues:
"On social issues, I tilt to the left. I am pro-choice, I applauded the long-overdue repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, I oppose criminalizing "hate speech," and support giving patients in the final stages of terminal illness the option of phyisician-assisted suicide. "

You are a perfect 3rd party "candidate". A bit libertarian (which is 3rd party too). Socially probably a bit green party, I suspect.

Research: 3rd party candidates (put the whole thing in quotes)
Libertarian
Green Party
Reform Party

There are 7 legally recognized 3 parties as of now. There are more. But ones like the peace party are so small they are irrelevant.

On an unrelated note. If you know how to search websites using another engine (like google) look at publicintelligence.net. Research DHS/FBI. They believe without hesitation if you go to tattoo shops, beauty shops, hobby shops or dozens of other locations you might be a terrorist:
http://publicintelligence.net/fbi-suspic...ng-flyers/ (Search the site for a few hours).

FINALLY, based on some responses. You might look into constitutional party too. However, I do not like Virgil Goode. While some of his stuff is great. The negative to me, does away with the good.

I hope that helps. It requires work on your behalf (study/research).

I keep on thinking of stuff, sorry. Search political quiz/affiliation. I do not agree 100% with everything on this website. But this is a great and nationally recognized "quiz" ("Worlds Smallest Political Quiz")

Since you are registered democratic. You must be somewhat inclined to lean this way a bit more of the time. Look into green party. Sorry this was rehash of what others said.

The problem is the 2 party system/turn key tyranny. It is us vs them... Not rep vs dem.
