Website-the way to go?

Look into wordpress if you want full control... it's relatively easy to use, but you have to do some reading to see how it all works. There are plenty tutorials on youtube if you need someone to "explain" you a bit more about it.
Once you're' up and running, it'll be easy to update and maintain, the setup will always be a bit of a steep learning curve.
You don't really need to know much about coding at all, but you need to read documentation of wordpress. As the geeks always say, RTFM (read the f*ing manual).
.com domains can be registered with a range of suppliers. Usually it's easiest if you get one from your hosting company (the company that will keep your blog on its servers, e.g. godaddy).
