Return windows surface?

Today I received a windows surface for Christmas. I am a big computer nerd, so I've wanted one for a little while. While I love the clean look and amazing physical features, there's a massive wall I hit: desktop mode doesn't actually work like a desktop. I did some research and it turns out that the processor the surface has doesn't work with exe programs. Because I use programs like that all the time, it makes the entire desktop mode completely useless. Sure, its nice that I can use some of the apps and stuff, but the windows appstore is so empty there's hardly any use for this. Should I return this and get a different tablet or something? Or should I just sit here with a tablet that looks nice but doesn't have whole lot of use? Are there any tablets that actually run a windows operating system that may be able to also run exes?
