All he wanted was the gift. You two broke up, so it would have been better to return it (so you could get your money back), but you aren't at all obligated to give a gift to an ex. If you want to, fine, if you don't that's also your choice. He sounds both shallow and manipulative, I think you're better off if you do lose his number and keep people who are more decent in your life.

I think he would have treated you ok until you gave him the gift and once he had it he would have turned back into a jerk.
