Here are some:
Expelling the "Moors" (Africans) set up Spain to go exploring via Columbus and others...we know how that turned out. Europeans decided to import Africans as slaves to areas to be cheap labor...and we know how that has worked out. To have a strong market for a resource originally found most plentiful in Africa, De Beers Mining convinced many westerners that diamonds represent romance and are very valuable. One small social affect in addition to this one is the campaign against "blood diamonds." Tribalistic rivalries led to the "child warriors" issues, several sets of atrocities, and the Find Kony movement. Boundaries of former colonies ignored tribal issues or worsened them, leading to humanitarian emergencies, revolts, "revised nations" (Sudan/South Sudan, Eritreia/Ethiopia, Congo/Rwanda/Burundi.)
