Here are some tips to increase your twitter followers:

Understand Your Target Market
Acquire the “RIGHT” Followers
Post Useful Information
Promote your Twitter Account to your other social network accounts like Facebook, Linkedin, Google Plus
Connect your Twitter account to your facebook account, so every time you tweet, your username will be displayed on your facebook status updates
Acknowledge Others by Retweeting
Reply to Other’s Tweets
