It's very hard to get an estimate of this without going through the websites of all 50 states. For a very rough estimate,
Alabama, Holman Correctional Facility 200 single cells 168 death row cells Arizona, Eyman, Roughly 60% of the facility's 4544 beds are of the highest security level. Arizona, US Penitentiary, Tucson 1580 beds, many of which are max Arkansas, Varner Supermax 468 supermax beds, 1600 beds overall (many are max) California, US Penitentiary, Atwater 1350 beds, many of which are max California, Pelican Bay State Prison 1107 supermax prisoners at last count California, California Correctional Institution 4484 beds, many are max or supermax California, High Desert State Prison 2324 beds, all max Colorado, Colorado State Penitentiary 984 supermax beds Colorado, ADX Florence (the federal system's most restrictive prison) 437 supermax beds Connecticut, Northern Correctional Institution 227 beds Florida, United States Penitentiary, Coleman 3000 beds, many are max Florida, Florida State Prison 1400 beds, many max or supermax Idaho, Idaho Maximum Security Institution population 435 Anyway, you get the idea. The federal system keeps it's highest security female inmates in Carswell, near Fort Worth, Texas. It's the federal prison hospital for women, but it has a 20-bed administrative unit, where all the federal death row females and female terrorists are held. |
