Generating Traffic to one's website?

You don't say what your website is which is a shame because you could get get much better advice if we knew what it was exactly.

Be very wary of companies/people offering to SEO your site to the top of Google. There are so many you can't possibly know them all. Many are just plain rubbish. If you consider any ensure you get some references from sites they have SEO'd and talk to the site owners directly. If they can't give you references then move on!

As far as other techniques are concerned they are wide ranging and numerous.
Avoid PCP if you are not an expert. Many a failed (and now very poor) marketers have gone that route.

Remember it's not just traffic you need ( I can get you 30,000 visitors month for $15 but you won't get a single sale), it's targeted traffic with COMMERCIAL INTENT. I.e you need people who want to buy and people who want to buy your product specifically.

Also consider the profitability of your site/product as this will decide what you need to do. If you want to use any kind of paid traffic generation then the first thing you need to assess is your ROI (return on investment). I.e you need to pay less for your advertising than you make in profit. Sounds simple but trust me this is where most people fail and end up seriously out of pocket.

If you have a low profit margin then SEO (natural search) traffic may be your only option. Yes it takes a bit longer to get your traffic but when done properly it doesn't take that long and it can be sustainable for years.

If you want to generate some free quick traffic then there is a great ebook on using the latest web 2.0 techniques ( latest buz stuff) which you can use to generate highly targeted traffic. Targeted traffic is the key, along with commercial intent.

Fact is no-one just bangs up a website, no matter how pretty, and makes money. You've made the first step but now you need to do a bit of work on perfecting it to make it profitable. That's down to driving traffic to your site, testing to ensure targeted traffic with buying intent and improve conversion rate's (visitors to buyers ratio)

Seriously grab the ebook I mentioned at http://www.trafficfury2010.com it has loads of info that will work well with any site and it's free.

best of luck
