Should some newspapers be more careful about researching their sources?

In the 60's-70's and before - media stories 'were supposed' to be substantiated by '3 independent sources' - before being published/transmitted - on the rulings of the (in house) media code of ethics etc watched over by the media press council.

Once 'that' was abandoned by these media moguls....that was it - fabricated/staged stories/events + sensationalism reporting were/are the Holy Grail for the media.

Every media outlet has been 'continually warned' in the past about their suspect representation of media news stories....but 'that' just gets ignored....to the level we have now of....anything goes anything printed/TV shown.

The media buzz word since the 70's is....never let the truth get in the way of a 'good staged/fabricated' story....'we' can always payout compensation after the circulation monies have been collected.
