"Delete" is different from "Deactivate"

To deactivate your account (to make your account inactive) - Go to Account Settings. Then, scroll down and click "Deactivate my account".

To delete (remove your account and not go to your same Facebook account) - Find an official "delete Facebook account" group and click the link on the left.
