Windows 8 freezes and comes up with messages about programs not responding?

You can restore the machine to an earlier date before the problem occurred. This will not affect any data or programs except any new programs you may have installed after the restore point. Go to Start and type Restore into the search box and it should ping up straightaway. I also recommend that you install Microsoft's free AV, just in case. See link.
