Men and women, are you happy with how your gender is treated?

No, I'm not happy with the way my gender is treated. I'm a woman and I personally feel that we get too much special treatment. Often people will say "Of course you disapprove of gender inequality until you directly benefit from it", but in my case I don't think that's true.
Mostly this seems to apply in the legal system, especially where cases of violence or murder are involved. I feel like women who abuse men are too often assumed to be justified ("He must've done something to offend her/You go, girl!") and get no punishment from the legal system as opposed to men, even when men are defending themselves against the woman's attacks. I also feel that when women are put on trial for murder of their husband the jury too readily believes whatever sob story, real or fabricated, the woman delivers as to abuse or cheating or probable cause and takes an unfair amount of sympathy on them. I'm not saying that mitigating factors should be ignored in these cases, I'm just saying that men who have the same kind of abuse to report should receive the same consideration. |
