Do I have to have Facebook Account?

Hi Steve! Unless you are interested in what a person you went to school with but didn't know\like is having for dinner then facebook IS pretty much useless to you.

Unfortunately, there are so many people that are addicted to this online "social networking" infection that those who opt out or choose to stick with traditional socializing(you know..that thing where you actually shake hands in person)are viewed as outcasts due to the mistaken belief that the only humans on the planet without facebook accounts are transients and people who've spent a whole lotta time in "institutions".

That's why people look at you funny when you tell them you don't "belong"...they're thinking "is he one of these types?....Hmmm, he doesn't smell like a transient".

To some, it's an all consuming part of their daily life knowing what others are doing and thinking at all times and commenting about it. "Love the giant spider tattoo on your face!..your sooo gorgeous now girl!".

There are however some benefits for the initiated, as long as you do not use your real name or your main email address(make a free slush account somewhere) and only enter basic info when you sign up. For instance I used to it show those interested in astronomy the latest pictures I take of Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon with my telescope.

One must be careful though!...for "the face" is always searching out ways to connect you to those it has arbitrarily decided share something...anything...in common with you. Graduate from Smith High School in 1992?..It'll offer to connect you with anyone else who did too!..yep, even that steroid freak football jock who once punched you out cold in the hallway just for fun!! "Hey!..What up bro?..long time no see!"

Any of your girlfriends friends' still friends with her raging alcoholic asshole ex? Well, he potentially now knows who you are, your birthdate and where you work and what you look like if you post pics of yourself smoking weed for your employer, pastor or the cops to see!!

Facebook is not necessary for human survival.
