Why is everybody so against drugs being legal?

Well educating people is ALWAYS a good start to correcting problems. Obviously (and unfortunately) you don't seem very well educated on what legitmate science (medicine, pharmacology and psychology) says about the substances that you are so "Gung Ho" for.

I agree that marihauna has some valid therapuetic uses, and medicinal marihauna, dispensed with a Doctor's prescription should be legal. Marihauna is not a magic cure, and it's real benefit is relatively limited. Real scientists tend to agree with me. Proponents of marihauna (like NORML) prefer a more radical (and incorrect) analysis.

Now, lets face it, alcohol is responsible for terrible physical, psychological and sociological problems. It costs $millions annually in medical care, lost time at work, car crashes and destroyed families. Lots of that money comes out of my pocket as a taxpayer.

For all its troubles, alcohol is frequently consumed in small amounts as a beverage that produces no discernable effects. Even the "Pilgrims" drank beer, because it was much safer than water. No group frowned on drunkeness more than them. Hell, they would not even celebrate Christmas. But, there is no reason to use marihauna (aside from medicinal marihauna) other than to get "high". Voluntary intoxication, altering one's perception of reality, is a very psychologically harmful action.

I am sure that you not educated enough, to know that most of the susbstances you are talking about were NOT illegal in the UK or US until about 100 years ago. They were legal, and the deleterious effects that they had on society cause them to become outlawed.

Legal cocaine or heroin won't be able to compete economically with illegal cocaine. And, people who abuse cocaine and heroin suffer from serious medical and psychological problems, that will untlimately cost me, a tax payer, more and more money to care for them.

I know you won't agree, but there is just nothing good to be said about substance abuse. And, any susbtance that can alter one's perception of reality has the potential to be either physically or psychologically addictive. Right now, some of the most significant drugs of abuse in our cities are not heroin or cocaine, by prescrition pain killers like Oxycodone being sld on the black market.

I really don't care what you put in your body. And, I don't care if you live or die. However, I do care if my tax Dollars have to be spent to provide medical care for you because you CHOSE to be a substance abuser. And I do care if you decide to steal from me or my neighbors to pay for your drugs of choice. And, I do care if your lack of productivity hurts the economy or social fiber of my community.
