will he come back? does he still care?

We broke up a week ago. I haven't tried contacting him out of respect for his wishes. But, when we broke up he did some strange things. He told me that he doesn't feel the same way about me and that he needs to get his life together so we can't be together. But he did a few things that make me think he didn't exactly know what he wanted.
1. He had me keep a necklace he's had his entire life that he had given me a month prior when we took a break. When he have it to me he said he wanted me to have it "in hopes that we find our way back to each other" 2. When he said the final goodbye he stood starting into my eyes for atleast a minute, sat on the bed with me, embraced me tighter than he ever had, said "i think things will get better for us" (i don't know if he meant individually or what) stared into my eyes a while again kissed me on the forehead and left. 3. He made plans with me to get coffee in a couple weeks before he left. But said not talking for a while would be good. ???
