Celebrities don't change the world, at best they raise awareness. It would appear that Neil did that. The open pit mining of the oil sands can be seem from space, maybe that looks like Hiroshima to some people.
The bitumen that is being piped to the mid west now sells for less than $60 a barrel and does make the heating oil there more affordable. When the pipeline is extended to the Koch refineries in Texas do you think they will care if China offers the higher price.
As someone living in Alberta I know that the whole story has been suppressed and when the attention is brought to the situation there will be changes.
